Hi! I'm Katie, a pet and livestock portrait artist based in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. I create life like drawings of your beloved pet using high quality, lightfast coloured pencils and pastel paper.

This was a memorial portrait of Declan the bull. He had been on his farm since 2008 so it was such a loss to the family when his time came to an end! ☹️

He was a big friendly guy and was described to me as being like a big dog 😂 Probably one of those bulls you can give a good scratch behind the ears! 🤣

Im always so grateful to be asked to complete memorial portraits so It was such an honour to create this lasting memory of Declan! 💕🎨

This strong headed tup lamb may be familiar to many for topping last year’s Ayr BF ram sale!

It’s always fantastic to have a keepsake of memorable home bred livestock, whether it be a photograph or hand drawn portrait they really are something to showcase with pride. 🏆❤️

Bella’s owner has been a regular customer of mine and has had portraits commissioned from pretty much day 1! Chancer 💕🏇 Loved this one, there wasn’t a huge amount of detail that I could get from the reference but I really love the final result, a bit softer to the eye.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in being hyperrealistic all the time but sometimes softness and subtleness can yield just as lovely results 🥰 🎨🖌️

My First portrait on this really lovely Sand colour. I think it’s such a great contrast against darker subjects, like this gorgeous black Lab called Tara 😍💕

I loved doing this wee surprise commission of Flynn the Collie for a 60th birthday! I really enjoy drawing Collies, such loyal and hard working dogs! 🐏🐶

What a joy this was to draw! 🥰Scooby and Rohan doing what they do best! 🐎

This sort of composition was a bit out of my comfort zone but I couldn’t be more chuffed with how it turned out. I always love it when my customers have special requests and layout ideas, it really pushes me to grow as an artist and create some of my best work. 🎨🖌️

I don’t often get to draw cats which is a shame as I absolutely love drawing them! I especially love drawing their eyes as it means I can dig out those bright and earthy greens and luminous yellows that usually sit unused for all my other animal portraits.

This cool cat was an absolute treat to draw, a thoughtful gift from one friend to another on their birthday 🥹I really hope to get more cats like this guy on my drawing board soon! 😍🐈

It was an absolute pleasure to draw these handsome boys, Hector and Fletcher 🐎💙

I had a wee bit of tweaking to do removing the bridle on the lovely Hector (right) so needed my best concentration face for that but I am so chuffed with the result! 🎨

A wee memorial portrait completed a few weeks ago of a much loved (and greatly missed) Bulldog named Tank. 💙

It was such an honour to be asked to create this memorial piece of a much loved boy named Pilly. A lovely memory for his owner after a wonderful 24 years together ❤️

Harry and Ollie ❤️ These handsome chaps are my first ever Beagles and they were just a joy to have on my drawing board!

Lots of different pencils used to achieve that classic Beagle colour, I’m so chuffed with the result! 🎨

What a great idea for a retirement gift! The colleagues of this recipient all chipped in to get her a portrait of her beloved dogs Rosie and Callie 🥰

Surprise commissions are just the best, especially when you’re working undercover while two customers from the same family secretly arrange a commission for each other around the exact same time 😂

The customers were actually both relations of mine, so I had a bit of a chuckle to myself as I was corresponding with them both, I just had to make sure I didn’t do a Katie and get my messages mixed up and give the game away 😅😂

Anyway back to the star of the show, the ridiculously handsome Charlie 😍 I’m so chuffed with how he turned out, it was an amazing reference photo to work from so I was able to get in so much detail! 📸

What a fabulous pair to have as my first completed horse portrait, Skipper and Ghillie 😍

What a joy this was! I always see other artists posting about how horses are their favourite subject to draw and I used to think… no chance they look far too difficult 🫣 But here we are, now drawing horses and loving it!

Huge thanks to Claire for pushing me out of my comfort zone and asking me to draw her boys, and also special mention to Heidi Allison Photography for providing Claire with the most clear and perfect reference photos 😍

Absolutely loved drawing this handsome boy, Parker 😍 It was great to have another Boxer on my drawing board, they’re such a joy to draw! 🥰

Parker was caught mid zoomies when this photo was taken so he’s got a proper cheeky “it wasn’t me” look on his face 😂

The eyes are so important when creating a pet portrait, getting a reference photo that is close up and shows all the reflections and colour really makes for a super realistic end product.✍️

This portrait of the gorgeous Lola was a dream to work on, her photo had so much detail and her eyes are just stunning 😍 I used sanguine, burnt ochre, red-violet, Venetian red and burnt sienna to get the right tone. I also love drawing in the subtle reflection of the owners, like this one of Lola you can see her owner giving her a wee wave to look at the camera 😂🥰

Slowly dipping my toes into equine portraits…

Done this wee eye practice, eye modelled by my sisters horse Blue. His other eye is in fact Blue but I’m saving that for a very special and very large portrait coming soon. 👀

Taking my own reference photo really made me realise that I need to watch where I position myself, as I’m not quite ready to do any self portraits! You’ll see in the reflection how I’ve hid behind my phone to avoid this 😂😂🤦🏼‍♀️

This handsome boy Boss sadly passed away earlier in the year and I felt honoured to be asked to create this portrait for his owners.

I loved having a wee red head on my drawing board 👩🏼‍🦰🐾 Picking out all the coloured pencils I’m going to use at the start of a portrait is my favourite part, for this portrait of Skye there were lots of brown, violet, green and red! 🎨

Again I had some fab photos to work from, and in the finish up we went for one that shows off Skye’s signature head tilt 😍
